It is a pleasure and privilege for me to participate in this special and interesting meeting, but at the same time also very important, regarding the developments and issues actually facing justice and judicial authority, as well as the supreme courts themselves in our countries.

It is by now a tradition, as a sign of respect for the 10th of May 1913 - the day of the legal foundation’s approval of independent functioning of Albanian judicial system, - that this day is honored as the Day of Justice.

It is a special honor and privilege to be here in this great University, one of the most well known in the world, an elite and symbol of knowledge, science and achievements. As a university professor with long academic career, as a politician from the region of Southeast Europe and as a President of a small country that has a history of century long friendship with Great Britain.

Two decades ago, precisely during the third week of February, chanting “We want Albania like the rest of Europe”, the young students of Tirana universities entered a hunger strike to protest against the official preservation of the dictatorship’s heritage and meaningless coexistence of the competing pluralist system with the dictator’ symbols.
